‘Fool You Are’ is my most successful sitcom idea to date. Successful not in that anyone has so far expressed any interest in getting it produced (though I have had some positive feedback), but in that it meets the classic sitcom brief most explicitly. There’s a simple central premise that provides lots of comedic opportunities, a small cast, limited locations, and a strong, sympathetic central character.

‘Fool You Are’ is the story of a grumpy hypochondriac who suddenly discovers he can see the future… not dramatic glimpses of nuclear war, plane crashes or presidential assassinations, but the future of his romantic and sexual relationships. Try going on a first date when you keep getting glimpses of the arguments and bitter break-ups that lie ahead!

The first episode of any sitcom is always problematic, and ‘Fool You Are’ really hits its stride once all the set-up is out of the way. For now, I’m putting Episode #1 up on the site… but if anyone’s interested in reading more, please drop me a line.

I’ve also reworked Episode #1 as a short (30 minute) stage play, for two male and two female actors. Let me know if you’d like to see that.
